there is good news: we can offer one more (probably last) opportunity to experience our production of “Gretchen 89 ff” in Ilmenau this year:

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at 8 p.m., at the Great Pond Student Recreation Center.

So, what is it about? It’s about making theater itself. And it’s funny. But not only. We play it the way it’s supposed to be, of course:

Live and in front of an audience. And played as it should be.

Only: How is that? Like you’ve seen it somewhere before? How the German teacher had it recited? How Aristotle, Duke George II, Brecht, Stanislawski or Strasberg taught or demanded drama? Or perhaps genderfluid, politically correct, multimedia, experimental?

Let’s just take any scene from “Faust I” and look behind the scenes, into the rehearsal room of any provincial theater.

Or let’s entrust ourselves to Lutz Hübner (“Frau Müller muss weg!”), with whom we take an almost cabaret look at the (professional) theater business, actually several.

Completely different characters clash and try their hand at directing and portraying the so-called box scene (Reclam edition p. 89 ff), with completely different results.

There is e.g. B. to experience the pain threshold director, the diva, the theater veteran, the cut fanatic, the beginner, the trainee and many other prototypical figures that seem exaggerated but probably look all too familiar to insiders.

A feast for the laughing muscles and at the same time a psychogram of the performing arts, which have been brought forward since antiquity and which know how to surprise and inspire again and again. Or is she just an anachronism, the awkward great-aunt in the entertainment media family?

With our usual ambition, we help to find an answer. Or even several…
