Tiago Santos, a musicologist by profession, is temporarily working at the Franz Liszt School of Music in Weimar as part of a research project. At the same time, he is also a gifted musician. He plays the Brazilian mandolin bandolim with virtuosity. No longer an insider tip in Brazil, he is still little known in Germany. An enthusiastic audience has already been able to experience him as a soloist in Ilmenau as part of the opening of the exhibition on forced emigration from Böhlen. For the upcoming concert, he will be supported by two fellow musicians and friends traveling from Brazil. Brazilian music is characterized by great diversity and has always been considered particularly open to outside influences. Characteristic of música popular do Brasil is the combination of traditional and modern elements, which are fed by African, indigenous and European, especially Portuguese, sources. In addition to samba and bossa nova, choro will also be played, in which mandolins, special guitars and the cavaquinho are used.
A piece of genuine Brazilian lifestyle and music on a summer evening in the SFZ, what more could you wish for?
