The Kuko e.V. invites to the first concert of its Small Series on Friday, July 21, in the Kreuzkirche at the Ilmenau cemetery. Doc Fritz & Josa will be our guests. The latter is still well remembered by the Ilmenau audience from last year’s double concert with Robert Gräfe.
With Josa & Doc Fritz two veterans of the Thuringian folk and blues scene meet and play with incomparable freshness and virtuosity acoustic blues music that goes straight to the legs and the heart. Both have been present as seasoned soloists for nearly three decades. Their shared interest in the world of the early country blues era has brought them together sporadically on several occasions. So Josa`s powerful and intelligent picking guitar and his wonderfully colorful harmonica meet the pearly mandolin and the driving banjo of Doc Fritz.
The result is an irresistible mix of jug band tunes to folk blues a la Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee to modern titles and original songs in the gesture of the early icons. From this material the two musicians extract a rhythmically concise mixture full of joy of playing and musical ideas. What inspires about this duo is not only a high degree of musicality, but also the charm and ease with which they go about their work, paying respect to the masters of the genre.
